Is Social Media Over?
That's a stupidly broad question, to which the answer is very obviously "no". But I can't be the only person who has grown to loathe the circular conversations and pointless fights on Twitter and Facebook and who has started avoiding Instagram because it just seems to be a lot of adverts interspersed with food photographs.
I still want to connect and communicate online and I'm not sure what the forum should be for that any more. Is it blogs? Is it newsletters? Are we better off engaging with a small number of people in some meaningful sense rather than sending images of our breakfast to thousands of strangers?
So I guess the question isn't "Is Social Media Over?" but "Is this phase of social media coming to an end and, if so, what's next?"
It's a hundred degrees and my brain is frying. You should feel free to put this musing down to heatstroke.
