I have tied to avoid post-mortem pieces about the US election because they mostly seem to come from typing-for-hire journos with no real insight into the complexities of what went on, just banging the drum for whatever pet criticism they already had for one or other of the parties, or the electorate as a whole. What happened last week is immensely complicated, even while “Don’t vote for fascists” would seem to be a simple and easy-to-follow rule.
