On time being weird...
Have found myself freaking out this morning about the passage. Not the old thing of running out of it, or getting old, but the way memory frames it.
This week I have been diving back into Obsidian, because I had to finally accept that Tana, however amazing and clever it is, does not function well for me without a mobile app. I also suspect that my flow is better writing markdown/plain text than working in the bullet-outline format.
Anyway, so I have been tidying up Obsidian and getting to grips with some of the bits I'd forgotten etc. And it occurred to me that Obsidian is kind of the grandparent of all the note-taking apps out there. It's design has been superseded by apps like Tana and Capacities and its file/folder system feels old hat compared to object-based design. So I went on the wiki page to find out how old Obsidian actually is. I was guessing it was launched in maybe 2014 or 2015. I had certainly been using it for a good many years...
"Obsidian was founded by Shida Li and Erica Xu while quarantining during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Seriously? 2020? How is that even possible?? I thought this must be a typo, so I dove into my Daily Notes in Obsidian, looking for the date of the first entry I had made. 15th May 2021. I wasn't even there for the first year. This app that I thought I'd been using for the better part of a decade, I have actually been using for a little over two years.
I am freaked out by this. I guess it's also a testament to how Obsidian has become such an integral part of my working day.
But it still feels weird.
